Who ever said Laurelville is only fun in the summer!? I don’t know. But if they did, they’re wrong.
Just last weekend, over 20 youth aged 7-14 came together to get a taste of camp in the winter! Although it was only a one night extravaganza, we were able to squeeze in some of the best parts of Laurelville in the summer, as well as some new games and old camp traditions. On Friday night, we started off with worship right after dinner. Our talented Bible Teacher and Laurelville Program Director Katie Cline taught us about God’s promises. Unlike humans, God ALWAYS follows through! We also got to sing many camp favorites with the direction of Sam Stucky on guitar and Chad Johnson on the motions. After worship, we played another camp favorite, “Anklebiters,” and tested out Laurelville’s newest game, “Nine Square In the Air!.” Imagine “Foursquare” multiplying itself by 2.25 and combining itself with Volleyball. Needless to say, it was a hit and we hope these kids will come out to camp in the summer to help us teach everyone else!
On Saturday, after another fantastic morning worship, we had our snow activities. This included several hours of sledding, ramp included, and an epic snowball fight between the boys and girls. Everyone won, except Program Coordinator Christina Juliano who was crushed by a giant snowball. After lunch, we had the first annual Winterville Snowman Building Competition, featuring everything from a snow-throne, a pig, perfumed snowman families, elephants, giraffes, and cars. Everyone also won that competition, except counselor Chad Johnson, who failed to fortify the giraffe causing it’s imminent collapse. The rest of the day was spent playing “Hide and Seek” and “Sardines” (a Hide and Seek variation), making slime in crafts with Craft Extraordinaire Christina Juliano, and playing more “Anklebiters,” “Nine Square,””Carpetball,” and more!
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. And all of a sudden the campers were leaving us on Saturday evening. But Winterville reminded us how awesome camp at Laurelville is, and we can’t wait to see you all again in June or July!
